Abstract
We reviewed 30 case of Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy QHCIvi) diagnosed by echocazdiography. The mean age of the 30 patients (14 men, 16 women) was 5614.5 years. At presentation 24 patients (80%) had a history of chest pain, 24 patients (80%) had symptoms of dyspnea, 16 patients (53,6) had palpitation and 11 patients (37%} had ~i history of dizziness. Systolic cardiac murmur was audible in 9 patients (30%) and cazdiomegaly on chest X-ray was observed in 11 patients (37%). The 12-lead electrocardiogram was abnormal in 29 patients (979¢¥), the most common abnormalities were ST-segment alterations and T-wave inversion (809¢¥), :eft ventriculaz hypertrophy (53%), atrial fibrillation (20%).
Among the abnormal echocazdiographic features of HCM systolic anterior motion of mitral valve (SAM) was observed in 10 patients (30%, mean 123mm), the mean ventricular septal thiclmess was 19.6mm (1.73 times of the thickness of the F~osterior wall).
We managed these patients with beta-Mockers and calcium antagonists. Of 22 patients followed for a mean period of 52 months (range, 6 to 120 mont:hs), only three patients had clinical deterioration, 22 patients had clinical improvement and 4 patients had no interval change. We conclude that the natural history of HCM maybe more benign than shown in previously reported results show.
